There's no trouble, it's all pretty straightforward. Players have their hero card that the keep their items/prepared skills/skill deck around and the main play area is the map tiles, with tokens/decks to the side as needed. Nothing complicated.↧

Well, going by the Mythos Busters Podcast, the Drawn To The Flame Podcast, the rules channel on the Mythos Busters Discord, ArkhamDB, and the rules as written, these cards do not take up a slot for Dunwich investigators. I'm pretty confident playing them that way.
Matt did pop into the Mythos Busters discord to say he was working on an updated FAQ, but sans that materializing (seems like it must have gotten put off), I think the above are all going to be the next-best thing to having a ruling from Matt himself.
YMMV.

i mean is it strictly cosmetic? or does it have sections for cards to be placed on?

thanks...
what’s the difference?
Some playmats define areas to place cards. Essentially they introduce a board to a game without a fixed board.
This playmat is cosmetic as others pointed out -- just a nice picture to look at.
typically there's pictures in a rulebook that show how to layout cards - do people really need dotted lines to do so themselves? i'd argue that a mat with designated lines for cards is still only cosmetic versus mat with gameplay options like maps, summary info, or some type of tracking spaces for health, etc.
Apparently some people do need the defined layout that says place this type of card here or put the discard deck here. I personally don't see the need and prefer to layout the cards based on my playspace and what works for me.
I more mentioned a board because I view that cards games are games that (typically) do not require a board to play or if a "board" exists for tracking it is easily replaced. Just seems that there are gamers that really want some type of board type layout and will accessorize their games with boxes on playmats and/or character "trays" to hold cards, tokens, etc.
You are right most boardgames board define a ton more spaces and usually provide some reminders/rules for gameplay. It doesn't seem typical for card games playmats to include all of that data but some of that does seem to show up on player mats/trays that those who want boards add.
Any board or mat could be considered cosmetic if you choose to ignore the defined layout. After size, I think most people either just buy a mat based on the picture or plain color (cosmetic mats) or because it defines functional spaces for a particular game.

Does having the core+Mirkwood cycle provide enough cards to beat the Mirkwood nightmare scenarios, or are you supposed to “return to” nightmare Mirkwood after you have a larger card pool?
It would be possible (pretty difficult, though), but the point is to return there with a larger card pool.

Finished the game thrice since my last post here. A nice game but I still miss the versatility, the lore and the atmosphere of Dark Souls I and III and Bloodborne.Personal top:
1. Bloodborne
2. Dark Souls 3
3. Dark Souls 1 TIE with Sekiro
4. Dark Souls 2
5. Demon's Souls
As a fun fact, after countless hours fighting Guardian Ape I can now kill him without taking one single hit. Not even kidding. The same goes for Owl.

I'd be surprised is the "issue" has been resolved. I suspect it is related to how the card sheets are printed/cut/sorted/wrapped. Since they probably haven't changed the layout of those card sheets for printing nothing else has probably changed. Don't know for sure though. However, it really wasn't that bad honestly. Sure it took an hour to upwrap, sort, sleeve, re-box them. By the time it was done though I had a pretty good feel for the game and how to associate/store things to make setup easy ;)

I think there is sentiment that *some* were not interested in committing to the game when they felt it wasn't a complete experience. I've enjoyed our plays of it, but do also feel it wasn't "full". Have been waiting on the expansions; didn't completely distract from playing it, but would like more content before playing it again (have played 4 times).↧

Granted, those retirement enhancements will only be used if someone creates another character of that particular class later on in the campaign, but that does sometimes happen.

Yes, cardboard tokens are in the core set for terrain. Tokens are listed in the rules and are double sided: stream/wall, fire/statue, pit/mist, bush/ boulder, and table/barrels.
There are also terrain cards included to explain their function--and terrain can also be clicked on in the app to get the same explanation or allow heroes to interact with them, when relevant.

Wow, pretty "in the know" for a burglar! :ninja:
LOL... tbh they were in one of those storage boxes with lids on.... there was some Clone Wars CCG stuff in there too, some books and general bits ... they probably just saw the SW logo and thought £$£$£$£... they'd have got at least £50 if they'd have done their research on ebay or M:TG websites.... b******!
There was a total of six booster boxes converted into storage for them all, four were mine and two were the wife's - Ice Age to Visions and some Weatherlight stuff .... yeah I was gutted.. . My Decipher CCG stuff was still in the house, good job as I have 'the heroes of the rebellion',vader, tarkin, the falcon etc etc...
They left the bikes!!!! Which were all decent too... oh well, silver lining and they also left all the textbooks for my Uni studies :D

I guess the same question applies to Cities in Ruins too, though it seems to change the game more, from what I can tell.

I don't recommend you to do this. You need to play many times the base and then to add something from one expansion, later from the another and soon you will know what to append to the base game. If you mix everything in one moment you will still can't visit all the locations or participate in everything.
I'm not sure what you mean. FL and CiR don't have any new Locations.
They don't, but the other expansions have. Anyway I advise you to play firstly the only base and later do as I wrote before.

Welcome. You should really enjoy the ride. Go all in and buy everything released to date, sleeves for all cards, coin capsules for Chaos Tokens, a Chaos Bag (who doesn't want chaos in a bag?), a multitude of storage options, a playmat or two, the (slightly rubbish) novels to get the alternative invetigator cards. That should fill the space in your garage...though you may need to sell a few internal organs or unwanted family members to finance it.
