You may already know this: Resetting the map in full improves the odds on some hunting and fishing tiles. Simulates the passage of time according to the rules.

Since the map tile was not in the box and you were told to draw it, the rules say the full “put it away until later” reset is the correct way to play. If you are still willing to break the rules I suggest that you weigh the benefit of better food sources vs. leaving the map tiles in place.

I actually forgot or missed that rule about resetting the map if you need to draw a card that's not available (it's obviously a rare occurrence), thanks for the reminder.

I must be missing it in the rulebook because I don't see anything that specifically says "resetting the map simulates the passage of time." There's a sentence in the introduction that says they recommend saving after one or two hours because certain events only happen if you save but nothing to the effect of map resets (i.e. actions with the stair icon) in general being related to "the passage of time.
