After reading tons of great reviews, I got really excited for this game. It probably helped that I am a recovering Magic: The Gathering addict from years ago, and I felt this game would fill my deck-building urges at a much cheaper overall cost. The opportunity for co-op play pushed me over the edge. So I went ahead and ordered a Core Set, the entire Shadows of Mirkwood cycle of adventure packs, and The Massing at Osgiliath.

Cards should arrive by the end of the week, and I plan on running to my FLGS to buy sleeves when they get here. I will start out with solo play until I get the rules and basic strategy figured out before trying to get a friend to join me for co-op.

Right now, my plan is to try and beat every scenario 2-3 different ways. First, I want to just use the cards from the core set to beat the core set games, and then use just core cards with the cards from each specific adventure pack to beat those scenarios.

Once I do that, I want to make available every card that was printed previously for successive scenarios. So for example if I was to do A Journey to Rhosgobel, I would use cards from that pack, the core set, The Hunt for Gollum, and Conflict at the Carrock. The earlier scenarios wouldn't have as many cards available while the later ones would have even more.

Finally, I would play each scenario using any card I wanted from all of the adventure packs.

Is this a feasible approach? Is there anything I should do different? I just think this would help give the feel of somebody buying the adventures one at a time. You don't have everything to start with, and once you get everything, you can go back and play it all over again!

I hope your FLGS has some sleeves: There are no FFG sleeves of the right size (Grey ones) that I can find in the UK. The shopkeepers that I have spoken too have no idea when they will be back in stick. I have had to resort to unsleeving some quests to enable me to sleeve and play others.

Your approach is feasible, though not as easy as you may think. One of the core set scenarios is very difficult. The Massing is pretty hard, too. Though it does depend on how many people or hands will be playing.
