There are four 30-card starter decks in a base set, so you can definitely play 3 or 4 players with just one base set, but there are not enough cards for everyone to build a 'standard' deck of 50 cards. Buying a second base set would get you duplicates of some great cards for everyone to put in their decks (more Gandalfs is very helpful), but personally I think having a varied card pool is much more fun, and it gives you some constraints to work around which can make the game more rewarding when you win. I would recommend first starting with just one base set, then getting expansions to build decks (Two adventure packs or one deluxe expansion will get you enough cards for three players to have 50 cards) and after some plays you can decide if you really want that second base set.↧
