Are you sure you play the game right? I mean multiple avtivations of monsters if two or more heroes control same monsters? Or the sentry monster tactics who reveal tiles from the bottom of the stack?Have you played the "Wrath of Ashardalon" scenario? Have you played with 3 players and not more? When you fought Ashardalon, did you use the encounter card "Ashardalon Breathes!"?
I agree with you that the begining is hard and that the end of the game can be easier, but I find myself almost in every game running away from 3-4 monsters.
