You could also do like ma's shotgun, provide both melee and ranged profiles, but tack on a special rule: If thrown, this weapon in discarded. Or: If thrown, a survivor may immediately spend an action to pick up the weapon from zone where it hit. If a zombie turn passes, the weapon may no longer be retrieved (It's been lost in the havoc).
