I actually think that the current stock of brown monsters makes dungeon crawling a risky venture for a first level hero.
Say your hand is: [Concentration, Swiftness, Promise], with green in the source. If you go dungeon crawling, you kill a Minotaur, Medusa, or Werewolf at range. You kill a Crypt Worm as well, but take 3 wounds in the process. A Gargoyle is a disaster, you take 3 wounds and you don't kill it.
Or, maybe your hand is: [Determination, Rage, Rage, Concentration, Mana Draw], with blue and green in the source. This is a safer hand for dungeon crawling. You kill a Crypt Worm, Minotaur, Medusa, or Gargoyle without taking a wound. A Werewolf is unpleasant; you kill it, but take 4 wounds.
In both cases, it is probably right to explore the dungeon and take your chances. Sometimes a Werewolf bites you. Well, dungeons are supposed to be dangerous! I certainly am not going to start complaining that new brown monsters with elemental attacks are going to destroy the strategy of the game. At least not until I see what the new monsters are.
