Where in the rules/storybook does it say this?

I'm having a hard time working out how the two Brodie initiative cards actually work. (The text in the rule book).

"Brodie Pounces
Roll once for the pounce's initiative card. Each figure in that space must defend against that same attack separately."

What on Brodie's Roll is a HIT?
Why are there 3 swords on Brodie's Pounce card, if he only rolls once?

"Brodie Chases
Once Brodie is done moving, roll a number of action dice equal to the battle value on Brodie's chase initiative card....
...(Only 1 attack roll is made each time Brodie chases)"

So roll 3 dice, but only defend against one HIT- again is a HIT a sword, or a bow, or both?
