It's a Mystery Card that came with the Coast expansion.

Looked again & found it. :) It's a good question. There are a few different "Remains In Play" cards that apply to Elders & have one effect if they're alive, but another if they're dead or Evil. And although the intent on them seems to be if the 1st or 2nd condition is true when the card is played, what ABOUT if they're killed after?

Here's the Harbormaster's, for clarity:

"If The Harbormaster is still alive, any time a Hero wants to look at the Secrets of a Town Elder they must first pass a Honor +5 Test. If failed, any Investigation or cards used are wasted.

If he is dead or joined the Villain, discard & move the Shadow Track 2 steps closer to Darkness."

Yeah, I would say it gets discarded & the Shadow Track moves. Even though it WAS a "Remains In Play"& the 1st effect applied, if he dies or joins the Villain the 2nd condition has been fulfilled.

It seems to me in all cases the Elder can no longer exert their influence if they're dead or have joined the Villain! :D Plus, this would give even MORE incentive to find a way to cancel the Mystery card. (Like there isn't enough already!)

Usually most Mystery cards that Remain In Play are enough of a impediment that I want to get rid of them ASAP! The ones that effect Elders seem to be the worst. ("The Order's Influence" Ugh.:shake: )
