Rick, you mentioned you'd played with the game's creator. I also suspect that, as a new player, you haven't read the clusterf**k that was the original rulebook. For those of us who didn't have the creator to explain it to us, that rulebook was ridiculous.

Note my mention above of the lack of any rule about spreading out the monsters evenly -- well, apparently that was always what you were supposed to do, but the rules were so badly written they didn't mention it.

There were plenty of other things not mentioned or unclear, from how various investigators' special abilities were meant to work, to what happened if multiple locks for the same die were in play, to what you did with monster markers that were "spent" as trophies. Some were intuitive enough, but not all of them. And then there was the major change to when spell cards were spent...
