I think this game is more strategic, less luck. There are a lot of RNG management that you don't get in KDM. Also, this game is narrative campaign, while KDM is sandbox campaign. In other words, this game is "theoretically" to be played once (there are paths, but you know how paths work in games - they are the same ultimately 😛 ), after this you know the story (even though I doubt it will make your game meaningfully easier or harder). So, key differences:
1) more ways to manage RNG
2) actual story, rather than "write your own narrative"
3) I think KDM is more open (sandbox, simply a lot more content due to it existing longer and having a lot of expansions) and replayable, but frankly, if I were to put 200+ hrs in board game, I would put it in ATO rather than KDM.
Personally, I left KDM after making 2 fights in a row using same gear, same strategy, same everything, but first combat was a party wipe and second combat was flawless victory (it was vs Butcher). The difference was that in first combat we drew trap card A LOT of times and second combat we didn't draw it that much. That made me leave the game.
