Session: Arkham Horror:: Throw a Man Overboard

During a recent journey into Arkham, along with the districts of Kingsport and Innsmouth, I found myself with two gentlemen who could only accomplish their stories if they were to either be devoured accidentally, or voluntarily. I'm speaking of Tommy Muldoon and, one of my favorites, Silas Marsh.

I found it relaxing to have the story of Tommy's. If you play with stories, you might often find yourself wanting to accomplish it and disregarding some of the gates and monsters appearing. Because I wanted Tommy to be devoured, I jumped in gates willingly, hoping for the chance to complete his story. Unfortunately it never occurred.

Fortunately Silas did meet his demise. After entering a couple of gates, he managed to acquire his 3 clue tokens, a monster, and a gate trophy. All of these were needed for him to be devoured. I also found that he had multiple items that would be of great use to the other two characters (being played by my boyfriend), so before voluntarily offing him, I stopped by a location and dropped off all the items that would be lost due to his death.

After Silas met his demise and sealed a gate of his choice (Out at Devil Reef, a terrible spot for a gate to open), I picked up Wendy Adams and found myself running through the streets and jumping into portals to help us reach our 6 seal winning strategy.

The game ended in less than 2 hours and we beat Ghatanothoa without a single person being devoured against his or her will. I was even happier seeing as it was Halloween and the banishing of an evil god seemed quite fitting.

I've really enjoyed playing games taking on two characters. With two boards your effective numbers are taken down by 1 and the gate level increased by one, add in both Innsmouth AND Dunwich and you'll see the gate level raised by 2. Besides those extra helpers, it's a nice way to play a 2 player game. If one character is doing poorly, you don't feel quite so bad because you have promise in another!
