I think the consensus is that so far you've played three of the easiest AOs against some of the best investigators.
Ditto on the suggestion of random investigators and AOs. Also be sure you don't have too many gates open in relationship to the number of investigators in play. That's a major way that Azathoth wins with his high doom track.
When driven insane or knocked out, lose half your items and half your clues.
A lot of times, the random draw of items has a lot to do with success and failure. If you've been getting major weapons, the game is a lot easier.
